Axle Alignment Procedure: Notes

The Following Sequence of Procedure Steps Must be Observed.

NOTE:

The vehicle must only be measured at curb weight position. Refer to WHEEL BEARING IN CURB WEIGHT POSITION, LIFTING VEHICLES WITH COIL SPRING .

Measuring Procedure

  Start Perform wheel run-out compensation. Bounce the vehicle  
  Turn the steering wheel into the straight ahead position and secure it. Refer to (1). Height, Measuring. Refer to Height, Measuring . Insert the Brake Pedal Actuator:VAG1869/2  .  
               
  Check camber at front axle Is the actual value within tolerance? No  
             
    Yes   Adjusting. Refer to FRONT AXLE CAMBER, ADJUSTING .  
             
     
               
  Check rear axle camber Is the actual value within tolerance? No  
             
    Yes   Adjusting. Refer to REAR AXLE CAMBER, ADJUSTING .  
             
     
               
  Check toe at rear axle Is the actual value within tolerance? No  
             
    Yes   Adjusting. Refer to REAR AXLE CAMBER, ADJUSTING .  
             
     
               
  Check caster at front axle Is the actual value within tolerance? No  
             
    Yes   Check the axle components and assembly  
             
     
               
  Check toe at front axle Is the actual value within tolerance? No  
             
  End Yes   Adjusting. Refer to FRONT AXLE TOE, ADJUSTING .  
             
     
(1) If steering wheel is crooked at end of alignment procedure, it must be straightened. Perform a basic setting on the Steering Angle Sensor -G85- using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
