Ignition System Check

DIAGNOSTIC INFORMATION CHART

Step Action YES NO
Was "Engine and Emission Control System Check" performed?  Go to Step 2. Go to ENGINE AND EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM CHECK :N32A.
Ignition spark test 1 
  1. Perform ignition spark test, Ignition Spark Test .

Is test result satisfactory? 
Go to Step 3. Go to Step 4.
Ignition timing check 
  1. Check ignition timing, Ignition Timing Inspection .

Is check result satisfactory? 
Ignition system is in good condition. Repair or replace malfunction part, Ignition Timing Inspection .
Confirmation of malfunction-detected cylinder 
  1. Confirm any cylinder which shows malfunction in ignition spark test.

Are there malfunctions in all cylinders? 
Go to Step 7. Go to Step 5.
Ignition spark test 2 
  1. Replace spark plug in malfunction-detected cylinder one with spark plug of normal cylinder.
  2. Perform ignition spark test on spark plug installed in malfunction-detected cylinder, Ignition Spark Test .

Is test result satisfactory? 
Replace spark plug in malfunction-detected cylinder, Spark Plug Removal and Installation . Go to Step 6.
Ignition spark test 3 
  1. Replace ignition coil assembly of malfunction-detected cylinder with an ignition coil assembly of normal cylinder.
  2. Perform ignition spark test on spark plug in malfunction-detected cylinder, Ignition Spark Test .

Is test result satisfactory? 
Replace ignition coil in malfunction-detected cylinder, Ignition Coil Assembly Removal and Installation . Go to Step 7.
Ignition coil assembly power supply and ground circuit check 
  1. Check ignition coil power supply circuit (A1 - A6) and ignition coil ground signal circuit (C1 - C6) of ignition coil assembly for open, short and poor connection.

Are circuits in good condition? 
Go to Step 8. Repair or replace malfunctioning part.
Ignition coil assembly control circuits check 
  1. Check ignition coil control circuit (B1 - B6) for open, short circuit and poor connection.

Are circuits in good condition? 
Go to Step 9. Repair or replace malfunctioning part.
CKP sensor and CMP sensor check 
  1. Check CKP sensor and CMP sensor.

Are check results satisfactory? 
Substitute a known-good ECM and recheck. Replace CKP sensor or CMP sensor.
