Ignition Timing Inspection

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE:
  • Ignition timing is not adjustable. If ignition timing is out of specification, check ignition system related parts.
  • Before starting engine, place select lever in "P" range, and set parking brake.
  1. Connect SUZUKI scan tool to DLC (1) with ignition switch in OFF position.

    Special Tool 

    (A): SUZUKI scan tool (SUZUKI-SDT)

  2. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
  3. Make sure that all electrical loads except ignition are turned off.
  4. Make be sure that idle speed conforms to specification.
  5. Check ignition timing using scan tool.

    ignition timing 

    Standard: 5 ± 3° BTDC (at specified idle speed) 

    Ignition order 

    1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 

  6. If ignition timing is out of specification, check the following.
    • CKP sensor
    • CKP sensor plate
    • TP sensor
    • CMP sensor
    • VVT system
    • Knock sensor
  7. Check that increasing engine speed advances ignition timing.

    If check results are not satisfactory, check CKP sensor and ECM.
