Transmission, Removing, Vehicles With Gasoline Engine, AWD Vehicles

Brief Description

The transmission is removed downward separately.

Battery disconnected and when it is located engine/motor compartment, removed. Air filter and starter removed. Engine and transmission are supported before the left subframe mount is removed.

The -subframe- is removed together with the -pendulum support-. The -steering gear- remains in the vehicle.

Both drive axles are disconnected from the transmission and remain inside the wheel bearing housings. Occasionally they will be moved to the side, but they still remain on the vehicle.

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Removing

-- Lift the vehicle, all four mounts from lifting platform at the same height.

-- Move the selector lever to >>P<<.

-- Remove the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the bleeder -1- if equipped, with the bleeder hose from the locking mechanism -arrow- of the battery tray -3-.

Engine Compartment Battery

-- Remove the battery and the battery tray. Refer to BATTERY TRAY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Luggage Compartment Battery

-- Disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

-- Remove the bracket with the air filter housing. Refer to BATTERY TRAY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Continuation for all.

-- Pry out the selector lever cable -1- from the selector lever using the Pry Lever:80 - 200  .

-- Remove the bolts -2- and tie up the cable bracket -3- together with the selector lever cable.

-- Do not bend or kink the cable.

-- Remove the charge air pipe. Refer to CHARGE AIR SYSTEM .

NOTE:

The cooling system is under pressure when the engine is warm.

Before removing the coolant hoses on the transmission, cover the coolant expansion tank cap -arrow- with a cloth and carefully open.

-- Place a lint-free cloth on to transmission fluid cooler and transmission to absorb escaping coolant.

-- Clamp off the coolant hoses with Hose Clamps - Up To 25mm:3094  and remove them.

-- Seal off the transmission fluid cooler connections with suitable sealing plugs taken from the Engine Bung Set:VAS 6122  .

-- Disconnect the connector -1- for the Dual-Clutch Transmission Mechatronic -J743-. To do so turn the twist lock counter-clockwise -arrow-.

-- Remove the starter. Refer to STARTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

It is recommended to remove the lower bolt first.

-- Remove the upper engine/transmission connecting bolt on the transmission with the Insert Tool - 18mm:T10179  or Insert Tool 18 mm:T10509  .

One bolt is located inside the hole for the starter -arrow-. Use Socket - Xzn 14:T10061  to remove the bolt.

-- Disconnect any hose and cable connections near the engine lifting eyes for the Engine Support Bridge:10-222A  .

-- Support the engine in the installation position. Refer to ENGINE, SUPPORTING IN INSTALLATION POSITION, ARTEON .

-- Lightly pretension the engine/transmission assembly and Engine Support Bridge using the Spindles.

-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to Noise Insulation .

-- Remove the lower section of the left front wheel housing liner. Refer to OVERVIEW - FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER .

-- Remove the wire and bracket from the front oil pan -arrows-.

-- Route the wires near the transmission fluid pan upward and tie them secure.

-- Release the connector for the Transmission Fluid Auxiliary Hydraulic Pump 1 -V475- -a- and remove the connector -b-.

-- If equipped, disconnect the connector -1- from the sensor for the Oil Level Thermal Sensor -G266-.

-- Remove the subframe without the steering gear. Refer to OVERVIEW - SUBFRAME .

-- Remove both drive axles from the transmission. Refer to Drive Axle .

-- Secure the drive axle to the suspension strut using a Tensioning Strap:T10038  .

Do not damage the surface protection of the shafts.

-- Remove bolts -1- and -2- and bevel box transmission support.

-- Remove the bolts -A- and -B- from the bevel box and remove the heat shield -1-.

-- Mark the position of the driveshaft -arrows- with flexible disc to the bevel box output flange.

-- Remove the driveshaft from the bevel box -arrows-. Refer to DRIVESHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Use the Adapter:T10172/5-  -1- and the Counterhold Tool:T10172  -2- to loosen and tighten.

-- Secure the Support Bridge:T10323  with a bolt at the inner rear threaded hole for the subframe.

-- The subframe bolts are meant for this.

-- Lay a cloth -A- on the Support Bridge

NOTE:

Sealing ring in driveshaft flange -1- must not be damaged during removal and installation.

Replace the driveshaft if it is damaged. Refer to DRIVESHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Install all driveshaft parts marked in relation to each other in same position when reinstalling.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- of the assembly mounts for the transmission.

-- Lower the engine/transmission >>only<< on the transmission side approximately to the dimension -a- using the spindles on the Engine Support Bridge:10 - 222 A  .

Dimension -a- = approximately 90 mm

The transmission is disconnected from the engine in this position.

The Transmission Support:3282  is equipped with the Transmission Support - Mounting Plate 61:3282/61  to remove the 0GC transmission.

-- The Transmission Support:3282  is inserted in the Engine and Gearbox Jack:VAS 6931  .

-- Align the Transmission Support arms so that they align with the holes in the Adjusting Plate.

-- Install the mounting elements -A- on the Adjustment Plate as shown. The Transmission Support - Bolt:3282/34  is used as the right rear mounting element. This mounting element is located outside of the Adjusting Plate.

-- Move the Engine and Gearbox Jack:VAS 6931  with the Transmission Support:3282  under the transmission and align it.

-- Install the fuse panel -1- and hooks -2- as shown on the transmission.

-- Remove the >>last<< engine/transmission connecting bolts.

-- Remove the transmission from the engine and carefully lower it, make sure there is >>clearance<< to the other components..

NOTE:

Pay attention to all of the lines when lowering the transmission.

Transmission, transporting. Refer to TRANSMISSION, TRANSPORTING .

Secure the transmission on the assembly stand. Refer to SECURING ON ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION HOLDER .

Install the transmission. Refer to TRANSMISSION, INSTALLING .
