Transmission, Installing

-- Make sure the alignment sleeves are installed in the engine flange.

-- Check the plate seating between the engine and the transmission. The plate must contact the engine along the entire perimeter. If it is above the engine, then it is not hooked into the cylinder block correctly.

-- Make sure the torque converter is installed correctly. Refer to TORQUE CONVERTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Further installation is performed in the reverse order of the removal.

Mount the engine and the transmission in the subframe mount free of tension. Refer to SUBFRAME MOUNT, ADJUSTING .

-- Replace all the bolts from the transmission mount and transmission support bracket.

-- Install all new bolts first by hand.

When installing, first install the transmission support bracket -A- onto the transmission using the bolts -1- and tighten to 40 Nm + 90°.

-- Align the engine/transmission in its installed position. Lift until the transmission bracket is touching the transmission mount completely.

CAUTION:

There is a risk of damaging threads in transmission bracket by inserting bolts at an angle.

  • Before installing the bolts -2-, the transmission support bracket and transmission mount must be absolutely parallel to each other. If necessary, lift the back of the transmission using the Engine and Gearbox Jack.

Adjust the >>old fit<< between both bolts using a screwdriver when tightening the bracket/transmission mount bolts -2-. Tighten the two larger bolts to 60 Nm +90°.

Transmission to engine tightening specifications. Refer to TRANSMISSION TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS .

-- Install the pendulum support. Refer to PENDULUM SUPPORT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Attach the drive axles to the transmission. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- If equipped, install the heat shield over the right drive axle. Refer to DRIVE AXLE HEAT SHIELD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Align the exhaust system free of tension. Refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM, INSTALLING WITHOUT TENSION .

-- Install the starter. Refer to STARTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Only 2.5L Engine: 

-- Attach the clamps for the power steering line to the transmission. Refer to OVERVIEW - POWER STEERING PUMP .

Only 1.8L Engine: 

-- Install the Secondary Air Injection Solenoid Valve - N112-. Refer to Secondary Air Injection Solenoid Valve -N112-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Continuation for All 

-- Connect the coolant hoses to the ATF cooler according the markings made during the removal.

-- Attach the selector lever cable to the transmission and adjust it. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, ADJUSTING .

-- Install the battery tray and the battery. Refer to BATTERY TRAY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Check the coolant level. Refer to COOLANT, DRAINING AND FILLING .

-- Check the ATF level. Refer to ATF .

-- Install the left and right front wheel housing liner. Refer to FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .

-- Attach the wheels. Refer to WHEEL BOLT TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS .

-- Install the engine cover and the air filter. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Perform a basic setting. Refer to Vehicle Diagnostic Tester and select "Perform basic setting" under Guided Functions  .
