Selector Lever Cable, Through 02.09

NOTE:

Check the cable for ease of movement after installing it.

Removing 

-- Move the selector lever into the "S" position.

Loosen the adjustment bolt -arrow-.

-- Remove the lock washers -A and B-. The lock washers must later be replaced when adjusting the cable.

-- Lift the vehicle.

-- In order to remove the cable and/or selector mechanism, the heat shield and if necessary, exhaust system components must now be removed. Refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM COMPONENTS .

-- Remove the heat shield.

-- Remove the selector housing under the selector lever.

-- Remove the retainer plate on the cable bracket. Always replace the retainer plate.

The selector housing is pushed forward on the cable.

The locking strap must be pushed forward in order to remove the cable -1-.

-- Push the pin upward at the same time with a screwdriver -2-.

-- Insert the screwdriver from underneath.

-- Remove the selector lever cable.

Remove the selector housing from the cable

Installing 

Do not grease the cable.

-- Route the selector lever cable, making sure it is free of tension. Install is also into the cable bracket on the transmission. Do not secure yet with the lock washers. Do not install the ball head.

-- When installing, make sure the selector lever cable is routed correctly.

-- Install the selector housing onto the cable.

-- Install the selector lever cable into the selector mechanism.

-- Insert the cable into the bracket and then insert the pin through the eye from the top

-- Check the selector lever cable for ease of movement. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, CHECKING .

-- Install a new retainer plate.

-- Secure the cable with a new retainer plate to the cable bracket on the selector mechanism.

-- Install the selector housing.

-- Adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, ADJUSTING .

-- Install heat shield.

If the plate underneath is bent, there will be noises. The cable will then flap on the plate.

-- Push the plate upward into the tunnel -arrow- when installing it.

-- Install the exhaust system. Refer to [EXHAUST SYSTEM COMPONENTS .
