ATF Level, Checking And Filling: Checking

-- Turn off the engine.

The Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) temperature must not be more than approximately 30 °C (86 °F) at start of the test.

-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnosis Tester and move through the selections until it is ready for operation. Refer to TESTER, CONNECTING .

-- Press the "right" Guided Functions  .

-- Select the vehicle, the transmission and check ATF level  .

-- Press the →  button.

-- Start the engine.

-- Lift the vehicle.

-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to Description and Operation .

-- Place the Used Oil Collection and Extraction UnitSMN372500 or the drip tray for VAS 6100VAS 6208 under the transmission.

-- Press the →  button.

If the test temperature: 35 to 45 °C (95 to 113 °F) is shown: 

-- Remove the ATF plug from the pan -arrow- .

ATF should drain out of the overflow tube.

If the ATF continues to drain out of hole: 

The ATF does not need to be topped off.

-- Reinstall the ATF plug with new seal and tighten it to 27 Nm. The ATF level test is now completed.

If no ATF drains out of the hole: 

-- Fill the ATF. Refer to FILLING .
