Selector Lever Cable, Checking And Adjusting: Adjusting

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

-- Place the selector lever in the "S" position.

-- Move the lever/selector shaft on the transmission into the "D" position.

-- Remove the selector lever handle. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER HANDLE .

-- The procedure for disconnecting batteries must absolutely be obeyed.

-- Disconnect the battery Ground (GND) cable with the ignition turned off. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Remove the ashtray and remove the selector mechanism cover from the center console. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Remove the cover from the selector mechanism. Refer to SELECTOR MECHANISM COVER .

-- Remove the Cover strip/frame from the selector mechanism. Refer to COVER STRIP/FRAME .

-- Loosen the bolt on the selector lever cable approximately one turn.

-- Carefully push the selector lever cable onto the lever/selector shaft. When doing this, take care not to bend the lever/selector shaft, otherwise the selector mechanism will no longer be able to be adjusted correctly.

-- Center the selector lever by slightly moving the selector lever forward and backward in the "D" position without actually leaving the "D" position.

-- Tighten the bolt to 10 Nm in this position. T40031 can be used for this.

Further installation is performed in the reverse sequence.

-- Install the ashtray and selector mechanism cover in the center console. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Connect the battery.

-- Observe the work sequence after connecting the battery. Refer to Removal and Installation .
