Selector Mechanism

Removing 

-- Obtain radio code on vehicles with coded radio.

-- With ignition switched off disconnect battery Ground (GND) cable.

-- Pull intake hose -1- and connector -2- off Mass Air Flow sensor.

-- Remove bolts -3-, -4- and -5-.

-- Remove air cleaner complete [For engine(s) APH, BNU, AWP, AWV, BKF] Description and Operation or to [For engine(s) BPR, BPS] Description and Operation or to [For engine(s) BDC, BEV, BGD, AVH, AZG, AEG] Description and Operation .

-- Remove balance weight -A- and gear selector cable -B- from gear lever.

-- Take off gear selector cable with washer and square nut (self-locking).

-- Pull gate selector cable off actuating arm/relay lever -C- to do this lift lug in direction of -arrow-.

-- Remove cable support bracket from transmission -arrows-, first unclip hose on cable support bracket.

-- Carefully pry cover off center console -arrows-.

-- Pull cover to rear off center console.

-- Destroy clip -arrow- and pull gear lever knob off with cover.

-- Pull rubber noise damper off gear lever.

-- Remove gear lever housing securing nuts -arrows-.

-- Disconnect exhaust system after front exhaust pipe at double clamp -A-. Remove front exhaust pipe support from subframe if necessary [For engine(s) BDC, BEV, BGD, AVH, AZG, AEG] Description and Operation or to [For engine(s) APH, BNU, AWP, AWV, BKF] Description and Operation or to [For engine(s) BPR, BPS] Description and Operation or [For engine(s) ALH] Description and Operation

-- Remove cross support -B- below exhaust system.

-- Loosen heat shield -C- in forward area.

-- Remove heat shield -D-.

-- Unbolt gear lever housing from body.

-- Swing selector housing downward and take out with selector cables.

Installing 

Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence, when doing this note the following:

-- Align gear lever housing parallel to body.

Adjusting selector mechanism GEAR SELECTOR MECHANISM, ADJUSTING .

Tightening Specifications 

Gear lever housing to body 25 Nm
Cross support to body 25 Nm
Selector cable support bracket to transmission 25 Nm
Selector cable bolt to transmission selector lever 25 Nm
Balance weight to transmission selector lever 25 Nm


Removing 

-- Obtain radio code on vehicles with coded radio.

-- With ignition switched off disconnect battery Ground (GND) cable.

-- Pull intake hose -1- and connector -2- off Mass air flow sensor.

-- Remove bolts -3-, -4- and -5-.

-- Remove air cleaner complete [For engine(s) APH, BNU, AWP, AWV, BKF] Description and Operation or to [For engine(s) BPR, BPS] Description and Operation or to [For engine(s) BDC, BEV, BGD, AVH, AZG, AEG] Description and Operation .

-- Pry gate selector cable -A- and gear selector cable -B- off transmission using an open wrench.

1 = 13 mm open wrench, commercially available

-- Remove cable support bracket from transmission -arrows-, unclip hose at cable support bracket first.

-- Pull gear lever boot off center console upper part -arrows-.

-- Destroy clip -arrow- and pull gear lever knob off with cover.

-- Pull rubber noise damper off gear lever.

-- Remove center console upper part. Removal and Installation

-- Remove gear lever housing front securing nuts -arrows-.

-- Disconnect exhaust system after front exhaust pipe at double clamp -A-. Remove front exhaust pipe supports from subframe if necessary. [For engine(s) BDC, BEV, BGD, AVH, AZG, AEG] Description and Operation or to [For engine(s) APH, BNU, AWP, AWV, BKF] Description and Operation or to [For engine(s) BPR, BPS] Description and Operation or [For engine(s) ALH] Description and Operation

-- Remove cross support -B- below exhaust system.

-- Loosen heat shield -C- in forward area.

-- Remove heat shield -D-.

-- Unbolt gear lever housing from body.

-- Swing gear lever housing down and remove with selector cables.

Installing 

Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence, when doing this note the following:

-- Apply a small amount of Polyurea grease to ball head of selector cable locking mechanism -A- and gate selector cable locking mechanism -B-.

NOTE:

The seals -arrows- outside the recess must be grease free.

-- Press gear selector cable onto transmission selector lever and gate selector cable onto relay lever -arrows-.

Adjusting selector mechanism GEAR SELECTOR MECHANISM, ADJUSTING .

Tightening Specifications 

Gear lever housing to body 25 Nm
Cross support to body 25 Nm
Selector cable spt. brkt to transmission 25 Nm
