Gear Selector Mechanism, Adjusting

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

NOTE:

The following points are essential, make sure correct selector adjustment:

Moving parts of selector mechanism and transmission elements must be in proper condition.

Selector mechanism must move freely.

The transmission, clutch and clutch mechanism must also be in proper condition.

-- Carefully pry cover off center console -arrows-.

-- Pull cover to rear of center console.

-- Destroy clip -arrow- and pull gear lever knob off with cover.

-- Pull rubber noise damper off gear lever.

-- Obtain radio code on vehicles with coded radio.

-- With ignition switched off disconnect battery Ground (GND) cable.

-- Pull intake hose -1- and connector -2- off Mass air flow sensor.

-- Remove bolts -3-, -4- and -5-.

-- Remove air cleaner complete [For engine(s) APH, BNU, AWP, AWV, BKF] Description and Operation or to [For engine(s) BPR, BPS] Description and Operation or to [For engine(s) BDC, BEV, BGD, AVH, AZG, AEG] Description and Operation .

-- Remove balance weight, see item  21.

-- Loosen bolt -A- and nut -B-, until gear selector cable and actuating arm/gate selector cable are free to move in elongated holes.

-- Loosen bolt -C-, pull off foam seal in area of bolt -C- if necessary.

-- Insert gear lever jig.

-- Swing jig securing hook under mounting plate and tighten nut -D-.

-- Press gear lever into left-hand detent of sliding piece.

-- Press gear lever together with sliding piece to left onto stop direction of -arrow- and tighten sliding piece with bolt -E-.

-- Press gear lever into right-hand detent direction of -arrow-.

-- Tighten bolt -C-.

-- Insert wedge and pin.

-- Slide wedge between gear selector and selector cover plate, make sure there is no play.

NOTE:

Wedge must not lift gear lever.

-- In this position secure gear selector cable and actuating arm/gate selector cable, when doing this, check position of wedge.

-- Remove gear lever jig.

-- Install balance weight, see item  21.

-- Install gear lever knob and boot.



Special tools and workshop equipment required 

NOTE:

The following points are essential for making correct selector adjustment:

Moving parts of selector mechanism and transmission elements must be in proper condition.

Selector mechanism must move freely.

The transmission, clutch and clutch mechanism must also be in proper condition.

-- Secure locking mechanism on gear selector cable and gate selector cable by pulling forward onto top -arrow 1- and then turning to left to lock -arrow 2-.

Set selector shaft as follows:

-- Press selector shaft down direction of -arrow 1-.

-- Turn right-angle piece -A- in direction of -arrow 2- when pressing selector shaft down.

-- Pull gear lever boot off center console upper part -arrows-.

-- Pull rubber noise damper toward gear lever.

Set gear lever as follows:

-- Select neutral with gear lever.

-- Guide pin T10027 through hole -A- and into hole -B-.

-- Turn locking mechanism on gear selector cable and gate selector cable to right onto stop direction of -arrow-.

Spring presses locking mechanism into normal position.

-- Turn right-angled piece -A- back to original position direction of -arrow-.

-- Pull pin T10027 out of holes -A- and -B-.

-- Insert rubber noise damper.

-- Clip boot on to center console upper part.
