Friction torque, checking
Friction torque can only be checked if tapered roller bearings have been replaced.
If tapered roller bearings have not been replaced, friction torque must not be checked. Then, adjust drive pinion as described from, see DRIVE PINION, ADJUSTING .
- Lubricate bearing beforehand with gear oil.
A - Torque gauge, commercially available, 0 - 600 Ncm (0 - 50 in. lb)
B - Wrench socket (41 mm)
- Friction torque of new tapered roller bearings must be 80-120 Ncm (7 - 11 in lb).
