Speedometer Inoperative

  1. Connect a scan tool.
  2. Check for engine control diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
Is the vehicle speed sensor DTC set?
- Go to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle Go to Step 2

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the engine control module (ECM) connector if equipped with an automatic transmission or the transmission control module (TCM) if equipped with an automatic transmission.
  3. Remove the instrument cluster.
  4. Check continuity between the ECM connector terminal 21 (for the 0.8 L engine) or terminal 51 (for the 1.0 L engine) or the TCM connector terminal B12 and the instrument panel cluster (IPC) terminal 15.
Does the ohmmeter indicate the specified value?
Go to Step 4  Go to Step 3 
3 Repair the open circuit between the ECM connector terminal 21 (for the 0.8 L engine) or terminal 51 (for the 1.0 L engine) or the TCM connector terminal B12 and the instrument panel cluster (IPC) terminal 15.
Is the repair complete?
- System OK -
4 Replace the speedometer.
