Instrument Panel Removal And Installation: Removal

- Disconnect negative (-) cable at battery.
- Disable air bag system. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM (Grand Vitara) or DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM (XL-7).
- Remove console box.
- Remove center lower garnish (1).
- Remove center garnish mounting screw (1) and then pull off center garnish.
- Remove harness and controller cover (2).
- Disconnect BCM connectors and HVAC control module connector from each controller.
- Remove center garnish (1) with BCM (2) and HVAC control module.
- Remove passenger air bag (inflator). Refer to PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE (Grand Vitara) or PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE (XL7).
- Remove column hole cover.
- Remove steering column assembly. Refer to STEERING COLUMN REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Disconnect speedometer connector and remove speedometer assembly referring to COMBINATION METER REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove engine hood opener.
- Disconnect couplers which need to be disconnected for instrument panel removal.
- Remove front pillar trims.
- Remove instrument panel mounting bolt referring to INSTRUMENT PANEL COMPONENTS .
- Remove instrument panel.
CAUTION:
For vehicle with Air Bag, instrument panel could not be removed with SDM coupler connected. Use care not to damage Air Bag harness.
