BRAKELIGHT Switch Circuit Check

  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect CC ECU harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Depress brake pedal. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and CC ECU harness connector terminal No. 2 (Blue/Yellow wire on Esteem; Green/White wire on all others). See Fig 1 . With brake pedal depressed, reading should be 10-14 volts. Release brake pedal. Reading should be zero volts. If both readings are as specified, go to next step. If either reading is not as specified, go to step  3 .
  2. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and CC ECU harness connector terminal No. 6 (Gray/Red wire on Esteem; Yellow/Green wire on all others). See Fig 1 . With brake pedal released, reading should be 10-14 volts. Depress brake pedal. Reading should be zero volts. If both readings are as specified, go to step  4 . If either reading is not as specified, go to next step.
  3. Check fuses, wiring and harness connectors. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary. If circuits are okay, go to next step.
  4. Check brakelight switch. See BRAKELIGHT SWITCH  under COMPONENT TESTS.
