Flash Code Method

NOTE: When using "Flash Code" (2-digit code) method to retrieve DTC, convert trouble codes into 4-digit OBD-II DTC for use in DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. See DTC IDENTIFICATION .
  1. Ensure O/D cut switch is in OFF (depressed) position. Turn ignition on. If O/D OFF indicator illuminates for about 2 seconds, go to next step. If O/D OFF indicator does not illuminate, go to O/D OFF INDICATOR DOES NOT ILLUMINATE . If O/D OFF indicator remains illuminated, go to O/D OFF INDICATOR REMAINS ILLUMINATED . If O/D OFF indicator flashes, go to O/D OFF INDICATOR FLASHES .
  2. Locate engine compartment relay box. Using a fused jumper wire, jumper ground terminal of diagnostic connector No. 1 to diagnosis switch terminal of diagnostic connector No. 2. See Fig 1. If O/D OFF indicator flashes a DTC, record and identify DTC. See DTC IDENTIFICATION . If O/D OFF indicator does not respond, check for an open in diagnosis switch terminal circuit. Repair as necessary. If wire is okay, substitute TCM with a known-good unit. Retest system.
