DTC 61 - Sir Indicator Circuit Failure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Suzuki Swift and 1995 Geo Metro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

When Ignition switch is turned to ON position, system voltage is supplied to AIR BAG warning lamp and to terminal B9 of SDM. SDM confirms proper SIR system operation by flashing AIR BAG warning lamp 7 times, alternately energizing primary and redundant lamp drivers. If primary lamp driver output is not between pre-determined limits, and voltage at B9 terminal of SDM is greater than normal, SDM will set DTC 61. Charts B and C are used to diagnose a malfunctioning AIR BAG warning lamp circuit.

NOTE: Test numbers below refer to test numbers in chart.
  1. If SDM is configured for a smart cluster, DTC 61 will be set.
WARNING: To avoid air bag deployment and injury when trouble shooting system, only use test equipment specified in diagnostic charts. Under no circumstances should battery powered test equipment or test light be used. Carefully follow all instructions.
