DTC 25 - Initiator Circuit Short To Ignition

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Suzuki Swift and 1995 Geo Metro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Every time ignition switch is turned to ON position, SDM performs a series of self tests to check for internal malfunctions. If no internal faults are detected, SDM measures voltages in ignition 1, 36 VLR (back-up power supply), and deployment loop circuits. If voltage at these three terminals is within pre-determined limits, SDM continues to monitor voltage at A2 and A5 (driver-side low and passenger-side low) terminals. SDM will set DTC 25 when following criteria are met.

If this fault is occurring intermittently, most probable cause is a short circuit to battery power in SIR wiring harness or one of inflator modules. Historic DTC 25 is generally accompanied by a current DTC 71.

NOTE: Test numbers below refer to test numbers in chart.
  1. Verifies integrity of driver-side inflator module.
  2. Verifies integrity of passenger-side inflator module.
  3. Checks for a short circuit to battery power in driver-side high circuit.
  4. Checks for a short circuit to battery power in driver-side low circuit.
  5. Checks for a short circuit to battery power in passenger-side high circuit.
  6. Checks for a short circuit to battery power in passenger-side low circuit.
WARNING: To avoid air bag deployment and injury when trouble shooting system, only use test equipment specified in diagnostic charts. Under no circumstances should battery powered test equipment or test light be used. Carefully follow all instructions.
