Sir Coil: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1996 Suzuki Swift, 1996 Pontiac Firefly, and 1996 Geo Metro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. To install, position SIR coil and combination switch assembly onto steering column. Install and tighten 3 retaining screws. Reconnect SIR coil and combination switch connectors and tighten harness retainers.
  2. Reinstall upper and lower steering column covers and tighten 2 upper steering column mounting bolts to 10 ft. lbs. (14 N.m). Reinstall driver knee bolster panel, knee bolster, and steering column hole cover.
  3. Position steering wheel onto steering shaft, taking care to match up alignment marks on steering wheel and steering shaft. Install steering wheel retaining nut and tighten it to 24 ft. lbs. (33 N.m).
  4. Install the driver-side inflator module. Refer to DRIVER-SIDE INFLATOR MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Reconnect the negative battery cable and reactivate the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
