Retrieving Trouble Codes

NOTE: Before retrieving DTCs, ensure battery is fully charged for proper self-diagnostic system operation. DTCs must be cleared from TCM memory once repairs have been performed. See CLEARING TROUBLE CODES .
  1. Ensure O/D cut switch is in OFF position. Turn ignition on. If OD/OFF indicator illuminates for about 4 seconds, go to next step. If OD/OFF indicator remains illuminated, go to step  3. If OD/OFF indicator does not illuminate, go to step  4.
  2. Using a fused jumper wire, jumper ground terminal of diagnostic connector No. 1 to diagnosis switch terminal of diagnostic connector No. 2, located in engine compartment relay box. See Figure. If OD/OFF indicator does not respond, go to step  6. If OD/OFF indicator flashes DTC 12 only, perform a visual inspection. See VISUAL INSPECTION under PRELIMINARY CHECK . If OD/OFF indicator flashes any DTC other than DTC 12, identify DTC and diagnose. See DTC IDENTIFICATION , then proceed to DIAGNOSTIC TESTING.
  3. Check for faulty OD/OFF switch or a short to ground in OD/OFF indicator circuit (Light Green wire). Repair as necessary. If no problem is found, check TCM and its circuit. See TCM POWER & GROUND CIRCUIT  under TCM CIRCUIT CHECK.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect TCM harness connector. Using a fused jumper wire, jumper TCM harness connector terminal A21 (Light Green wire) to ground. turn ignition on. If OD/OFF indicator illuminates, go to next step. If OD/OFF indicator does not illuminate, check for an open in Light Green wire or faulty OD/OFF indicator bulb. Repair as necessary.
  5. Check for poor TCM harness connection at terminal A21 (Light Green wire). Repair as necessary. If connection is okay, check TCM and its circuit. See TCM POWER & GROUND CIRCUIT  under TCM CIRCUIT CHECK.
  6. Check for poor TCM harness connection at terminal A18 (Green/Red wire). Check for an open in Green/Red wire between TCM and diagnostic connector No. 2, or defective jumper wire. Repair as necessary. If no problem is found, check TCM and its circuit. See PIN VOLTAGE CHART under TCM CIRCUIT CHECK .
