Output Speed Sensor
NOTE:
On 3.7L and 4.7L models, the Output Shaft Speed (OSS) sensor signal is sent to the TCM, which in turn sends it to the PCM. For additional information, see appropriate DIAGNOSIS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS.
Models equipped with a 32RH, 42RE, 46RE or 47RE transmission use a transmission Output Speed Sensor (OSS). For transmission usage, see AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION APPLICATION - TRUCKS & RWD VANS
table. On models equipped with 32RH transmission, OSS is located on transmission tailshaft housing. On models equipped with a 42RE, 46RE or 47RE transmission, the speed sensor is located in the overdrive gear case. The sensor is positioned over the park gear and monitors transmission output shaft rotating speed. Speed sensor signals are triggered by the park gear lugs as they rotate past the sensor pickup face. Input signals from the sensor are sent to the transmission control module for processing. Signals from this sensor are shared with the powertrain control module.
