Test TC-53A - Cruise Control Switch Always High

Perform TEST TC-1A
before proceeding with this test. After each repair, perform TEST VER-4A
.
- Using scan tool, read cruise control inputs monitor. While observing scan tool, cycle cruise control ON/OFF switch several times. If scan tool display does not correspond with switch position, go to next step. If scan tool display does correspond with switch position, go to TEST TC-53B .
- Disconnect and inspect cruise control ON/OFF switch 2-pin connector. If connector is not okay, repair connector as necessary. If connector is okay, using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on cruise control ON/OFF 2-pin connector terminal No. 2 (White wire). If voltage is less than 4.8 volts, go to next step. If voltage is more than 4.8 volts, repair short to ground in White wire.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance at cruise control ON/OFF switch 2-pin connector terminal No. 1 (Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM 60-pin connector. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance between PCM 60-pin connector terminal No. 23 (Red/Light Green wire) and cruise control ON/OFF switch connector terminal No. 2 (White wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to step 6). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance between cruise control ON/OFF switch terminals. If resistance is less than 25,000 ohms, replace PCM. If resistance is more than 25,000 ohms, replace cruise control ON/OFF switch
- Disconnect and inspect clockspring 4-pin connector. If connector is not okay, repair connector as necessary. If connector is okay, using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of Red/Light Green wire between PCM connector terminal No. 23 and clockspring 4-pin connector terminal No. 2. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Red/Light Green wire between PCM and clockspring. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair open in Red/Light Green wire at clockspring.
