BACKGROUND
The B+ cable between the battery positive terminal and the main fuse box is now available as a separate replacement part. This Service Bulletin contains the method for replacing the B+ cable. The typical symptom is no start or difficult start. If there is a customer complaint of no start or difficult start, remove the cover for the engine compartment fuse box. Inspect the B+ terminal (see Fig 1 ). If the wire ends are discolored, replace the B+ cable. Wire ends should be copper in color.

B+ cable battery-fuse box, replacement
- Checking
Remove the cover for the engine compartment fuse box. Inspect the B+ terminal (see arrow, Fig 1 ). If the wire ends are discolored, replace the B+ cable.
NOTE: Ends should be copper in color. - Preparations
Remove:
- the battery negative lead
- the air cleaner (ACL) assembly.
- Removing the B+ cable (see Fig 2
)
Remove the B+ cable (1) from the battery positive lead.
Remove the protective sheath (3) from the cable between the battery and the cable duct (2).
Remove the fuse box from the bracket on the spring strut turret.
Remove:
- the nut holding the cable duct at the spring strut turret
- the tie straps for the wiring in the cable duct. Release the B+ cable.
- Removing the B+ cable in the fuse box (see Fig 3
)
Remove the B+ cable in the fuse box.
- Disconnecting the fuse holder (see Fig 4
)
Remove the relay and fuse holder clip mounting in the fuse box.
Push up the holders to access the rubber grommet on the under side of the fuse box.
- Removing the B+ cable (see Fig 5
)
Remove:
- the protective tube (1) around the B+ cable (2) between the cable duct and the fuse box
- any tape around the cable harness.
Cut off the front cable terminal on the B+ cable.
Pull up the cable through the rubber grommet.
- Installing the new B+ cable (see Fig 6
)
Insert the new cable (1) through the rubber grommet.
Install the cable in the fuse box without tightening it.
- Installing the fuse holders (see Fig 7
)
Install the holders in the fuse box.
Check that the wiring underneath the holders is not trapped.
Install:
- the protective tube (2), step 7, around the cable harness between the fuse box and cable duct
- insulation tape around the protective tube and the rubber grommet in the same position as before removal.
- Installing the B+ cable
Position the new wiring in the cable duct (2) (see Fig 2 ).
Secure the wiring using the new tie straps in the same positions as the removed ones.
Close the cable duct.
If necessary, secure the cable duct locking using the tie straps.
Install the protective tube (3) around the wiring between the cable duct and the battery terminal.
Replace the removed insulation tape around the protective tube and the cable duct.
Install:
- the nut holding the cable duct at the spring strut turret
- the fuse box.
Tighten the nut for the B+ cable in the fuse box. Tighten to 10 Nm.
Install:
- the fuse box cover
- the air cleaner (ACL).
Tighten the B+ cable (1) on the battery positive lead. Tighten to 4 Nm
Apply petroleum jelly to the B+ cable terminal on the battery positive lead.
Connect the battery negative lead.
WARRANTY STATEMENT : Claims may be submitted under the New Car Warranty when there is a documented customer complaint, using claim type 01.
