-- Remove the Rain/Light Recognition Sensor -G397-. Refer to RAIN/LIGHT RECOGNITION SENSOR G397, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Vehicles with Driver Assistance Systems Front Camera -R242-
-- Remove the Driver Assistance Systems Front Camera -R242-. Refer to DRIVER ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS FRONT CAMERA R242, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

There is a risk of damage due to improper handling.
- Do not kink the headliner.
-- Lower the headliner in the area of the windshield far enough that the windshield can be cut out without damaging the headliner. Refer to HEADLINER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the plenum chamber cover. Refer to Plenum Chamber Cover, Removing and Installing .
-- Remove the left and right drip rails. Refer to DRIP RAIL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Vehicles with Windshield Defogger -Z2-.
-- Disconnect the Windshield Defogger -Z2- connector.
-- Remove the Front Roof Module -WX3-. Refer to FRONT ROOF MODULE WX3, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Detach the ground wire for the Windshield Defogger -Z2-.
Continuation for all vehicles
-- Insert a cutting guard from the window removal set in the vehicle interior between the cutting wire and the instrument panel.
-- Secure the Cutting Cord :VAS 861 001/1A -2- in the piercing awl -1- from the window removal set.
Risk of injury to the hands and eyes from glass fragments.
Getting cut is possible.
- Wear protective eyewear.
- Wear safety gloves.
Risk of damaging component surfaces.
- Tape off the surrounding components in the visible area using commercially available adhesive tape.
-- Cover the cutting area of the piercing awl -1- on the body flange with adhesive tape.
-- Pierce the piercing awl -1- in this area from the inside outward through the adhesive bead and pull through the cutting cord -2- outward.
-- Position the cutting cord -1- all around under the windshield.
-- Use the threading tool -1-, for inserting the cutting cord -2- between the roof and windshield.
-- Secure the outside end of the cutting cord -1- on the right hinge -2- -arrow-.
-- Secure the removal device -1- from the window removal set at the lower left of the inner side of the window.
-- Insert the cutting cord -3- in the removal device -1- -arrow-.
-- Tension the cutting cord -3- with the removal device -1-.
-- Insert the cutting guard -2- between the cutting cord -3- and the instrument panel cover.
-- Cut free the lower area of the windshield using the cutting cord -1-.
-- Move the removal device -1- to the upper left corner of the windshield.
-- Cut free the area on the left A-pillar using the cutting cord -1- in -direction of the arrow-.
-- Move the removal device -2- to the upper right corner of the windshield.
-- Slide in the reel device -1- between the cutting cord -3- and the headline.
-- Cut free the upper area of the windshield using the cutting cord -1-.
-- Move the removal device -1- to the lower right corner of the windshield.
-- Cut free the area on the right A-pillar using the cutting cord -1- in the -direction of the arrow-.
Conditions
- The help of a second person is necessary for the following procedure.
-- Lift the windshield out of the vehicle with two commercially available suction lifters.
