Driver Assistance Systems Front Camera R242, Calibrating, Static
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Setting Device - Basic Set :VAS 6430/1A
- Calibration Board :VAS 6430/4
Preparing
Condition
The front camera must be calibrated after the following procedures:
- Changes made to the wheel alignment on the rear axle.
- Change of the height of one axle by more than 5 mm.
- Change of the height of both axles by more than 10 mm.
- Removing and installing or replacing the camera.
- Removing and installing the windshield.
- Repair work on components in which a camera is installed or that affect the component location of the camera.
- The DTC memory shows no basic setting/adaptation or an incorrect one.
- There may be no DTC memory entries present because they prevent the calibration.
-- Check the camera's field of view.
If the camera can no longer recognize the lane markings due to poor visibility, this could be caused by:
- Dirt or ice in the camera's field of vision.
- The camera's field of vision is fogged over.
Condition
- If there is heavy contamination on the inside of the windshield in the camera's field of vision, the camera's field of vision must be cleaned by hand. To do this, remove the camera and the lens. Refer to: Driver Assistance Systems Front Camera R242, Removing and Installing . Clean the windshield using a cleaning solution. Refer to: => Electronic Parts Information (ETKA).
-- Pay attention to the test requirements for the axle alignment. Refer to: TEST REQUIREMENTS .
-- Note the measurement preparations for an axle alignment with assistance systems. Refer to: MEASUREMENT PREPARATIONS .
-- Check the camera, bracket, and retainers for damage, external influences, and secure fit.
-- Make sure the floor space between the vehicle and the Setting Device Basic Set :VAS 6430 is sufficient before driving the vehicle onto the wheel alignment platform.
Tip
If the available floor space is not sufficient, drive the vehicle onto the wheel alignment platform backward and then use the corresponding floor space.
-- Drive the vehicle straight onto the wheel alignment platform.
-- Bring wheels in the straight position.
-- Install the quick-action clamp to the front wheels.
-- Install reflectors on the quick-action clamps.
-- Connect the => Vehicle diagnostic tester, select the program, and follow the instructions.
-- Measure and record the height -a- at all four wheels.
Condition
- The setting device must not be moved on the calibration beam.
- The alignment stand must be in the lowest level position for the next step.
-- Rotate the setting device upward so that the calibration beam is parallel to the center of the sensors on the front wheels.
-- Position the setting device in a distance of -a- from the center of the wheel hub of the front wheels to the beam on the setting device.
-- Measure the distance -a- with the distance measuring device -1- on both sides of the vehicle and align the setting device.
- Dimension -a- = 1500 mm ± 25 mm
Condition
- Distance -a- must be the same on both sides of the vehicle.
-- Attach the sensor -1- to the setting device and tighten.
Condition
- The alignment stand must be in the lowest level position for the next step.
-- Determine the height value -a- between the setting device contact surface and the wheel contact surface on the wheel alignment platform.
-- Enter the determined height value -a- in the wheel alignment computer.
The specified height of the Calibration Board For Lane Guard System : VAS 6430/4 is calculated in the wheel alignment computer and is put together as follows:
- Adjustment value of the calibration board 1, 400 mm + height value -a-
-- Loosen the clamping bolt -arrow- and place the measuring beam -1- on the floor.
-- Turn the crank -1- to adjust the calibration board to the height specification -2- according to the wheel alignment computer and then make a note of it.
-- If the specified height is reached, slide the measurement beam -1- slightly upward and secure it with the clamping screw -arrow-.
-- Slide the setting device in the -direction of arrow B- until the display in the wheel alignment computer is within the tolerance range.
-- Lightly tighten the adjusting screws -2- and -3- and secure the setting device so that it does not roll.
-- Turn the adjusting screw -1- until the display on the wheel alignment computer is within the tolerance range.
-- Turn the bubble level -A- using the adjusting screw -1- and the bubble level -B- using the adjusting screws -2- and -3- until the calibration board is level.
-- Loosen the clamping bolt -arrow- and place the measuring beam -1- on the floor.
-- Check the specified height -2-.
-- If the specified height is different, adjust with the crank -1.-
-- If the specified height is reached, slide the measurement beam -1- slightly upward and secure it with the clamping screw -arrow-.
Calibrating
Condition
- The => Vehicle diagnostic tester is connected.
-- Perform the "driver assistance systems front camera calibration" function using the => Vehicle diagnostic tester. Refer to: Diagnostic Entries .
