Bevel Box, Removing: Removing

-- Remove the subframe with the steering gear. Refer to SUBFRAME WITH STEERING GEAR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Vehicles with diesel engines:

-- Remove the front exhaust pipe. Refer to the appropriate service information .

Continuation for all vehicles

Vehicles with Gasoline Engine:

-- Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to CATALYTIC CONVERTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, FWD , or CATALYTIC CONVERTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, AWD .

-- Remove the right drive axle. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Vehicles with a bolted driveshaft:

-- Remove the driveshaft from the bevel box and tie it up using suitable means. Refer to the appropriate service information .

Vehicles with an attached driveshaft:

The help of a second technician is necessary for the following procedure.

-- Push the engine and transmission forward at the bottom.

-- Remove the driveshaft from the bevel box and tie it up using suitable means. Refer to DRIVESHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING , or DRIVESHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (R MODEL, TORQUE SPLITTER) .

Continuation for all vehicles

-- Remove the bolts -1- and -2-.

-- Remove the transmission support.

-- Install the bolts -1-.

-- Position a commercially available tire iron -A- in between the bolts -1-, and counterhold at the flange shaft.

-- Remove the bolt -2- with the Socket And Extended Bit :T10107A  .

-- Remove the upper bolt -A- for the bevel box retainer using the Socket - 8mm :T40276  -1-.

-- Loosen the lower bolts for securing the bevel box and remove up to dimension -a-.

• -Dimension a- = 15 mm

Tip

This prevents the bevel box from falling when loosening it.

-- Install the Puller - Bevel Gear :T10472  -A- at the bevel box.

-- Attach the Slide Hammer Set :VW771  -B- with washer and two sleeves from the Assembly Tool :T10649  to the Puller - Bevel Gear :T10472  -A-.

-- Loosen the bevel box from the transmission, using the Puller - Bevel Gear :T10472  -A- and the Slide Hammer Set :VW771  -B-.

-- Remove the slide hammer and puller.

-- Remove the bolts for securing the bevel box and remove the bevel box.
