Transmission Fluid, Draining And Filling: Notes
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Oil Filler - Adapter 6 :VAS 6262/6
- Oil Filler :VAS 6262 A
- Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit :VAS 6622A
Conditions
- The vehicle is level.
- Transmission not in emergency operation mode.
- Transmission in "P".
- Parking brake set.
- The engine is off.
Draining
-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to NOISE INSULATION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Place the Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit :SMN3725 underneath.
Risk of injury due to fluid escaping.
Irritation and injury to the skin and eyes are possible.
- Wear protective eyewear.
- Wear safety gloves.
-- Remove the transmission fluid drain plug -2-.
Tip
Some transmission fluid always leaks out when opening the transmission fluid drain plug, regardless of the transmission fluid level.
-- Remove the overflow pipe -1- and at the same time let the transmission fluid drain.
-- Remove the mechatronic drain plug -arrow-.
-- Drain any remaining transmission fluid.
Tip
Wait approximately four minutes until all of the transmission fluid has drained out.
-- Install the mechatronic drain plug -arrow- and tighten it.
Do not reuse drained transmission fluid.
Filling
-- Install the overflow pipe -1- and tighten.
-- Install the Oil Filler - Adapter 6 :VAS 6262/6 -C- hand-tight.
-- Install the Oil Filler :VAS 6262 A -B- into the Oil Filler - Adapter 6 :VAS 6262/6 -C- hand tight.
-- Shake the fluid container -A-.
-- Install the fluid container -A- on the Oil Filler :VAS 6262A -B-.
-- Open the lever -arrow- at the Oil Filler :VAS 6262A .
-- Lift up the fluid container -A- at the Oil Filler :VAS 6262A -B- and fill the transmission with 5.5 liters of transmission fluid.
-- Start the engine and let it run in idle.
-- Press the brake pedal and shift through all selector lever positions "P", "R", "N" and "D/S" at idle, retaining each selector lever position for at least 3 seconds.
-- Put the transmission in the "P" position.
-- Let the engine run.
