General Repair Information

The highest level of care and cleanliness along with tools that function properly are required to ensure a proper and successful transmission repair. Of course the general safety precautions also apply when carrying out repairs.

General information that applies to various different repair procedures is listed here instead of repeating it multiple times throughout the service information. They apply to this service information.

Tools

A complete list of special tools and workshop equipment used in the service information can be found at the beginning of each repair procedure and in the "Special Tools and Workshop Equipment" folder.

Transmission

Electrical Components

Due to the electrostatic charge to the human body, a person can receive an electrostatic shock when metal objects are touched.

This charge can damage the electrical/electronic components of the transmission and the selector mechanism when touching them.

-- Touch a grounded object such as a washer fluid hose or a hoist before working on electrical/electronic components. Do not touch the connector terminal or electronic components directly.

Guided Fault Finding, OBD and Test Instruments

Before beginning any repair work on the automatic transmission, determine the cause of the damage using "Guided Fault Finding"  .

Performing the Guided Fault Finding  using the Vehicle diagnostic tester .
