Necessity Of Calibration

• 1. The adaptive cruise control (ACC) must be calibrated after the following procedures
• 2. The driver assistance systems front camera must be calibrated after the following procedures
• 3. The peripheral camera must be calibrated after the following procedures:

1. The adaptive cruise control (ACC) must be calibrated after the following procedures:

Conditions 

The calibration normally occurs automatically.

• Alternations made to the wheel alignment on the rear axle.
• Change of the height of one axle by more than 5 mm.
• Change of the height of both axles by more than 10 mm.
• Removal and installation or replacement of the front bumper.
• If the Control Module for Adaptive Cruise Control -J428- is replaced.

2. The driver assistance systems front camera must be calibrated after the following procedures:

Conditions 

The calibration normally occurs automatically.

• Changes made to the wheel alignment on the rear axle.
• Change of the height of one axle by more than 5 mm.
• Change of the height of both axles by more than 10 mm.
• Removing and installing or replacing the camera.
• Removing and installing the windshield.
• Repair work on components in which a camera is installed or that affect the component location of the camera.
• The DTC memory shows no basic setting/adaptation or an incorrect one.

3. The peripheral camera must be calibrated after the following procedures:

• Changes made to the wheel alignment on the rear axle.
• Change of the height of one axle by more than 5 mm.
• Change of the height of both axles by more than 10 mm.
• Removal and Installation or Replacement of the Front Peripheral Camera -R243-, Left Peripheral Camera -R244-, Right Peripheral Camera -R245- or Right Peripheral Camera --.
• Repair procedures on components, in which the Front Peripheral Camera -R243-, Left Peripheral Camera -R244-, Right Peripheral Camera -R245- or Rear Peripheral Camera -R246- is installed, or which affect the camera installation position.
• Replacing the peripheral camera control module.
• Adjusting the overlap area of the individual camera images.
• Flashing the peripheral camera control module.
• Recording the data set on the peripheral camera control module.

4. The rearview camera must be calibrated after the following procedures:

• Alternations made to the wheel alignment on the rear axle.
• Change of the height of one axle by more than 5 mm.
• Change of the height of both axles by more than 10 mm.
• Removing and installing or replacing the camera.
• Repair work on components in which a camera is installed or that affect the component location of the camera.

3. Vehicle:

Conditions 

• The parking brake must be set.
• The steering wheel must be in the center position and the wheels must be straight.
• All doors, the hood and the rear lid must be closed.
• There must not be anyone inside the vehicle.
• Vehicle must not be loaded (curb weight).
• The vehicle must be in drive ready mode.
• The system must be active and displayed in the display unit.
• The vehicle must not be moved during the calibration.
• Make sure both exterior rearview mirrors are folded out.
• The camera lens must be clean.
• The battery charger must be connected and switched on. Refer to BATTERY A, CHARGING .

4. Calibration surroundings:

Conditions 

• The calibration surface must be level.
• The calibration environment must be free of objects in order to prevent false detection of lines.
• The calibration environment must have even lighting conditions. Avoid strong differences in lighting by headlamps or direct illumination.

Reflections affect image recognition by the camera and may make it impossible to perform the calibration.
