Engine, Installing
Install in reverse order of removal
If the engine and transmission were separated:
Vehicles with Manual Transmission
-- Insert the intermediate plate. Refer to Intermediate plate, removing and installing .
-- Make sure that the alignment sleeves for centering the engine and transmission are present.
Continuation for all vehicles
Vehicles with DSG Transmission
-- Install the intermediate plate. Refer to Intermediate plate, removing and installing .
-- Make sure that the alignment sleeves for centering the engine and transmission are present.
-- Make sure that a new needle bearing is installed. Refer to CRANKSHAFT NEEDLE BEARING, REPLACING .
Continuation for all vehicles
-- Tighten the transmission to the engine. Refer to TRANSMISSION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (MANUAL TRANSMISSION) or TRANSMISSION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) .

-- Guide the engine/transmission assembly into the body.
-- Install the bolts -arrows- all the way by hand, for this, use a commercially available step ladder.
-- Install the bolts -arrows- all the way by hand, for this, use a commercially available step ladder.
-- Remove the engine bracket.
-- Refer to ASSEMBLY MOUNT, ADJUSTING .
-- Tighten the engine and transmission mount.
Vehicles with Manual Transmission
If the clutch hydraulics were opened:
-- Refer to CLUTCH MECHANISM, BLEEDING .
