From now on, a new VW engine oil standard 508 00/509 00 is used in VW engines. It is characterized by the ability to lower fuel consumption and CO2
emission.

- VW 508 00/509 00 is a combined product where the gasoline specification is given with the 508 00 and the diesel specification with the 509 00.
- Volkswagen recommends to not use the new specifications in older engine generations. The recommended specifications are assigned to the engines in this article.
- Engine damage can occur if the oil with Volkswagen engine oil standard 508 00/509 00 is used in engines that are not designed for it.
- Engines for which the new oil is not suitable have an information label (lock carrier/engine compartment), which indicates the engine oil specification to be used.
