Final Drive, Removing And Installing: Installing
Install in the reverse order of removal while noting the following:
-- Secure the final drive -1- from falling using a strap from the universal mount -A- and bring into the position shown.
-- Make sure that the stop washers -B- are positioned on the rear bearings from above as shown. Correct placement prevents the rubber fittings -A- from falling or sliding out of the washers when installing.
-- Before installing the final drive, place the two new bolts in the rear bearing -arrows- from above.
-- Lift the final drive and guide it over the rear axle.
-- Connect the vent lines -arrows- to the final drive vent pipes.
-- Lift the final drive into the installation position using the transmission jack.
-- Place the washer -C- on the front mounting bracket.
When removing and installing the drive axles, the final drive must be movable in the rear area.
-- For this tighten the bolt by hand in the front mounting bracket -arrow- all the way. Loosen the bolt not more than five turns again so that the final drive remains movable.
-- Remove the transmission jack from under the vehicle.
-- Lift the final drive -A- in the rear -arrow 1- and push it as far as possible to the left -arrow 2-.
-- Carefully guide the right drive axle -B- upward into the flange.
-- Put the final drive back into its installation position.
-- Connect the right drive axle on the final drive.
-- Lift the final drive -A- in the rear -arrow 1- and push it as far as possible to the right -arrow 2-.
-- Carefully guide the left drive axle -B- upward into the flange.
-- Put the final drive back into its installation position.
-- Connect the left drive axle on the final drive.
-- Place the wood block on the Engine and Gearbox Jack and support the rear final drive.
-- Remove the bolt -arrow- on the front mounting bracket.
-- Place the driveshaft on the tunnel brace; place a cleaning cloth between them for protection.
-- Push the final drive as far as possible toward the rear.
-- Attach the driveshaft to the flange/driveshaft on the rear final drive so that the markings -arrows- line up. Install the bolts hand-tight at first.
-- When removing and installing the driveshaft, always be careful not to damage the bushing -arrow-.
-- Make sure that the washer -C- is resting on the front mounting bracket. Install the mounting bracket hand-tight with a new bolt -B-. Do not tighten the bolt yet.
-- Use the Multipoint Socket: T10035 to install the rear bolts for the final drive on the rear axle.
