ATF, Draining And Filling
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit :SMN372500
Requirements
- The engine is off.
- The vehicle is level and all hoist mounts are the same height.
- Remove the noise insulation if necessary
- Selector lever is in "P"
- The Vehicle Diagnostic Tester is connected.
- To begin working, the oil temperature should not be higher than 45 °C (113 °F).
- Test temperature: 35 to 45 °C (95 to 113 °F)
-- If ATF is filled, only use ATF that is available as a replacement part. Refer to the appropriate service information .
Risk of injury due to hot transmission fluid.
Draining
-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester and identify the vehicle in Guided Functions .
-- Select check ATF level .
Let the transmission cool down if the fluid temperature is higher than 45 °C (113 °F).
Do not start the engine if there is no transmission fluid in the transmission.
-- Engine off - do not start!
-- Place the Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit :SMN372500 under the transmission near the ATF check plug.
-- Remove the ATF check plug -1-.
-- Remove the ATF drain plug with overflow tube -3-.
-- Let the ATF drain.
-- Reinstall the ATF drain plug with overflow tube -3- and ATF check plug -1-.
Filling
The transmission is filled from above.
-- Remove the air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Make sure the area around the ATF fill plug is clean. Any dirt or debris that enters the transmission will cause damage to the transmission internals resulting in transmission replacement.
-- Clean area around the ATF fill plug -arrow-.
-- Remove the ATF fill plug -arrow-.
Shake bottles well before opening so that the settled components at the bottom of the bottle are mixed sufficiently with the oil.
-- Fill with three liters of ATF. Refer to the appropriate service information .
-- Reinstall the ATF fill plug and tighten by hand.
-- Move the selector lever into "P" position.
-- Start the engine.
-- With the brake pedal pressed, move the selector lever through all the different positions "P, R, N, D and S" at idle speed, holding it at each position for approximately 10 seconds.
-- Move the selector lever into "P" position.
-- Then check the ATF level. Refer to ATF LEVEL, CHECKING .
-- Install the air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
