Heater And A/C Unit, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Disconnect the refrigerant line with inner heat exchanger from the expansion valve. Refer to REFRIGERANT LINES WITH INNER HEAT EXCHANGER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- For all following procedures immediately seal all the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the Engine Bung Set: VAS 6122  .

-- Place the Shop Crane - Drip Tray: VAS 6208  under the engine.

-- Mark the coolant hoses -2- and -3- so that they are reconnected later on the correct side. The heater core is only designed for a specific flow direction of the coolant.

-- Clamp off the coolant hoses with the Hose Clamps - Up To 25mm: 3094  -1- and -4-.

CAUTION:

The cooling system may be under pressure. There is a risk of scalding due to hot steam and hot coolant.

Scalding the skin and other parts of the body is possible.

- Wear safety gloves.

- Wear protective eyewear.

- Reduce the pressure by covering the coolant expansion tank cap with a suitable towel and carefully opening it.

-- Lift the clamps.

-- Remove the coolant hoses.

-- Connect a suitable hose -A- to the upper connection on the heater core.

-- Hold a suitable container -B- under the lower connection to the heater core -C-.

-- Carefully blow the remaining coolant with the compressed air gun -A- through the hose out of the heater core into the container -B-.

-- Remove the instrument panel crossmember. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL CROSSMEMBER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Lift the rear footwell vent underneath the front seat and pull rearward to facilitate removing the footwell vent from the heater and A/C Unit.

-- Remove the rear footwell vent from the heater and A/C unit.

-- Remove the partition. Refer to Storage Compartments and Covers .

-- Disconnect the connector -3- from the Fresh Air Blower Control Module -J126-.

CAUTION:

Pyrotechnical components can deploy unintentionally.

Risk of injury.

- Discharge static electricity: briefly touch the door striker.

-- Disconnect the connector -5- from the Airbag Control Module -J234- -2-. Refer to Airbag Control Module .

-- Cover the carpet and Airbag Control Module -J234- in the vehicle interior with waterproof foil and absorbent paper.

NOTE:

Risk of damaging the airbag control module. If moisture enters the connectors, they will corrode.

After disconnecting, cover or seal the control module connectors to prevent moisture from entering.

-- Remove the condensation water drain hose -2- carefully from the heater and A/C unit -1-.

-- Remove the heater and A/C unit -1- from the bracket on the plenum chamber bulkhead.

-- Unhook the wiring harness -1- -arrows-.

-- Remove the cable channel -2- from the mounts -arrows-.

-- Disconnect the connectors on the heater and A/C unit.

NOTE:

The following steps must be performed with a second technician.

-- Remove the heater and A/C unit to the side.
