Driver Assistance Systems Front Camera, Calibrating
If the camera can no longer recognize the lane markings due to poor visibility, this could be caused by:
- Contamination or icing of the camera field of view present.
- Camera field of view is fogged up.
If heavy contamination at the inside of the windshield in the viewer of the camera is present, then the viewer of the camera must be cleaned by hand.
-- To do this, remove the camera and the lens and clean the windshield with cleaning solution. Remove the Driver Assistance Systems Front Camera -R242- and the lens.
If one of the following conditions is met, then the Driver Assistance Systems Front Camera -R242- must be calibrated:
- There is "no or false basic setting/adaption" active, listed in the DTC memory of the Driver Assistance Systems Front Camera -R242-.
- The windshield was removed and installed or replaced.
- The Driver Assistance Systems Front Camera -R242- was removed and installed or replaced.
- The bracket for the Driver Assistance Systems Front Camera -R242- was removed and installed or replaced.
- The lens was removed and installed or replaced.
- The wire for the Driver Assistance Systems Front Camera - R242- was replaced.
- The connector for the Driver Assistance Systems Front Camera - R242- was touched.
- Rear axle toe was adjusted.
- Changes to the vehicle suspension which changed the height were performed.
The Driver Assistance Systems Front Camera - R242- may only be calibrated using alignment equipment approved by VW/Audi.
Only the Setting Device Basic Set: VAS6430/1 may be used to calibrate the Driver Assistance Systems Front Camera -R242-.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Setting Device - Basic Set: VAS6430/1A
- Camera: VAS701001/1 , not illustrated
- Wheel Alignment Computer, not illustrated
- Vehicle Diagnostic Tester, not illustrated
Requirements for Calibrating
- Driver Assistance Systems Front Camera -R242- is correctly seated in the holder.
- Camera lens is clean.
- Field of vision of the camera is free.
- The vehicle must be standing on a firm and level surface.
- Enough space is available around the vehicle.
- Parking brake is activated.
- Steering wheel is set to neutral position, wheels are aligned straight.
- All doors and the rear lid must be closed.
- No persons are inside the vehicle.
- The vehicle must not be loaded (curb weight).
- Ignition switched on.
Procedure
-- Check the sensor and the retainer for damage, external influence and secure fit. Service any damaged components.
-- Check the DTC memory and correct or erase all potentially displayed entries.
-- Before driving the vehicle onto the vehicle alignment platform, make sure there is sufficient space in between the vehicle and the Setting Device Basic Set: VAS6430/1 .
- The distance between the Setting Device Basic Set: VAS6430/1 and the center of the wheel hubs on the front wheels must be 1, 500 mm ± 25 mm.
-- If the available floor space is not sufficient, drive the vehicle onto the wheel alignment platform backward and then use the corresponding floor space.
The calibration procedure is described with the Setting Device Basic Set: VAS6430 .
- Pay attention to the test requirements for an axle alignment. Refer to TEST REQUIREMENTS .
- Follow the measurement preparations for calibrating/adjusting the driver assistance systems. Refer to MEASUREMENT PREPARATIONS .
-- Drive the vehicle "centered" onto the wheel alignment platform.
-- When the vehicle is stopped, turn off the ignition.
-- Connect the battery charger. Refer to Battery, Charging .
-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester. (Guide the diagnostic cable through the open window.)
During the calibration procedure pay attention that all vehicle doors remain closed and the vehicle exterior lamps are off.
-- Move the wheels so that they are straight.
-- Install quick-action clamps on the wheels.
-- Attach the reflectors to the quick-action clamps.
-- Perform the wheel run-out compensation.
-- Select the button for the driver assistance systems front camera calibration procedure in the wheel alignment computer.
-- Measure and record the height at all four wheels.
The Setting Device Basic Set: VAS6430/1 must not be moved on the calibration beam.
The alignment stand must be in the lowest level position for the next step.
-- Rotate the Setting Device Basic Set: VAS6430/1 upward just enough so that the calibration beam is parallel to the center of the measuring sensors on the front wheels, so that it is possible to correctly measure the distance measuring device -1-.
- Distance Measuring Device with Roller Tape Measure and Stud Bolt
-- Position the Setting Device Basic Set: VAS6430/1 at a distance -a- from the center of the wheel hub on the front wheels to the beam on the Setting Device Basic Set: VAS6430/1 .
- Distance -a- 1, 500 mm ± 25 mm must be measured on both side of the vehicle and then the Setting Device Basic Set: VAS6430/1 must be aligned.
- Distance -a- must be the same on both sides of the vehicle.
-- Place the Camera: VAS701001/1 -1- for the ADR/ ACC adjustment on the Setting Device - Basic Set: VAS6430 on the right side and tighten.
-- Determine the height value -a- between the Setting Device Basic Set: VAS6430/1 contact surface and the wheel contact surface on the vehicle alignment platform. Enter the determined value in the wheel alignment computer.
-- Loosen the clamping bolt -arrow- and place the measuring bar -1- on the floor.
-- Turn the crank -1- to adjust the Calibration Board For Lane Guard System: VAS6430/4 to the height specification -2- and then make a note of it.
-- If the specified height is reached, slide the measurement beam -1- slightly upward and secure it with the clamping screw -arrow-.
-- Slide the Setting Device Basic Set: VAS6430 to the side in direction of -arrows B-, until the display in the wheel alignment computer is in the tolerance range.
-- Gently turn the adjustment screws -2 and 3- to secure the Setting Device Basic Set: VAS6430/1 from rolling away.
-- Turn the fine adjustment screw -1- until the display on the wheel alignment computer is within the tolerance range.
-- Level the bubble levels -A and B- on the Setting Device Basic Set : VAS6430/10 using the adjusting screws -1, 2 and 3-.
-- Loosen the clamping bolt -arrow- and place the measuring bar -1- on the floor.
-- Check the specified height -2- again, correct if necessary.
-- If the specified height is reached, slide the measurement beam -1- slightly upward and secure it with the clamping screw -arrow-.
-- Perform the following procedures via the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester
-- Instructions of the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester, to perform the calibration.
Next, in guided fault finding, determine the height of the body.
-- Enter noted heights.
-- Switch off the ignition after successful calibration.
-- Disconnect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester from the diagnostic connection.
-- Disconnect the battery charger. Refer to Battery, Charging .
