Axle Alignment Procedure

The Following Sequence of Procedure Steps must be Observed.

CAUTION:

The vehicle must only be measured at curb weight position. Refer to WHEEL BEARING IN CURB WEIGHT POSITION, LIFTING VEHICLES WITH COIL SPRING .

-- Note the information in the alignment equipment.

Measuring Procedure 

                 
  Start Perform wheel run-out compensation. Bounce the vehicle  
               
  Turn the steering wheel into the straight ahead position and secure it. Refer to (1). Measure the vehicle height Insert the Brake Pedal Actuator :VAG1869/2  .  
               
  Check camber at front axle Is the actual value within tolerance? No  
             
    Yes   Adjusting. Refer to FRONT AXLE CAMBER, ADJUSTING .  
             
     
               
  Check rear axle camber Is the actual value within tolerance? No  
             
    Yes   Check (torsion beam axle). Refer to REAR AXLE CAMBER, ADJUSTING, TORSION BEAM AXLE . Adjust (multi-link suspension). Refer to REAR AXLE CAMBER, ADJUSTING, MULTI-LINK SUSPENSION .  
             
     
               
  Check toe at rear axle Is the actual value within tolerance? No  
             
    Yes   Check (torsion beam axle). Refer to REAR AXLE TOE, ADJUSTING, TORSION BEAM AXLE . Adjust (multi-link suspension). Refer to REAR AXLE TOE, ADJUSTING, MULTI-LINK SUSPENSION .  
             
     
               
  Check caster at front axle Is the actual value within tolerance? No  
             
    Yes   Check the axle components and assembly  
             
     
               
  Check toe at front axle Is the actual value within tolerance? No  
             
  End Yes   Adjusting. Refer to FRONT AXLE TOE, ADJUSTING .  
             
     
(1) If steering wheel is crooked, then it must be straightened at the end of the alignment procedure. Perform a basic setting on the Steering Angle Sensor -G85- using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
CAUTION:

If adjustments were made to the suspension during the axle alignment on vehicles with ESP or ABS, the Steering Angle Sensor -G85- must be calibrated using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

If the rear axle setting was changed, the following driver assistance systems must be calibrated:

Lane assistance. Refer to Assistance Systems .

Adaptive cruise control (ACC). Refer to Assistance Systems .
