Transmission, Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
-- Replace the needle bearing -arrow- in the crankshaft. Refer to CRANKSHAFT NEEDLE BEARING, REPLACING .
If this needle bearing in the crankshaft is damaged, the gears are no longer able to shift correctly because the clutch is supported at this bearing.
-- Lightly lubricate the pin and splines on the transmission.
-- Check if the alignment sleeves -A- for centering the engine/transmission are in the cylinder block and insert them if they are not.
- The missing alignment sleeves due to an offset from the engine and transmission lead to damage to the needle bearing in the crankshaft.
-- Make sure the intermediate plate is seated correctly.
Guide the engine and transmission together by hand until the engine flange and transmission flange come into contact with one another all around.
-- Adjust the transmission support until the engine and transmission are >>aligned<<.
-- Turn the crankshaft slightly if necessary.
Pay attention to the selector lever cable when installing.
-- Attach the transmission to the engine.
-- Install the new bolts -arrows- of the assembly mounts for the transmission. Tightening specification: ASSEMBLY MOUNTS .
-- Install the fan shroud with the radiator fan, if removed. Refer to FAN SHROUD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, GOLF, TIGUAN, ARTEON, T-ROC AND PASSAT .
Vehicles with washer fluid reservoir on the longitudinal member:
-- Install the nut -3- on the washer fluid reservoir -4-. Tighten the nuts -1, 2 and 3-. Tightening specification. Refer to WASHER FLUID RESERVOIR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the pendulum support with new bolts. Tightening specification. Refer to OVERVIEW - ASSEMBLY MOUNTS .
-- Install the starter. Refer to STARTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the drive axles. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the right drive axle heat shield -arrows- (if equipped). Refer to DRIVE AXLE HEAT SHIELD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the screen -1- of the oil cooler carefully using a screwdriver and check for contamination.
-- If necessary, clean the screen and clip it in again.
-- Attach the coolant hoses to the transmission fluid cooler.
-- Install the wiring bracket on the oil pan.
-- Install the connectors on the transmission.
-- Lock the transmission jack in the P lever position. The lever on the transmission must be moved all the way in the direction of the cable bracket -arrow- at the same time.
-- To check, rotate both front wheels in the same direction and at the same time until the parking lock engages audibly.
- The parking lock is engaged when it is not possible to rotate both front wheels in the same direction at the same time.
-- Push the cable retainer -1- forward in the -direction of the arrow A- and then lock in the -direction of the arrow B-. The cable retainer -1- is now detached from the cable -2-.
-- Press the cable retainer -1- on the transmission jack on the transmission.
-- Thread the cable -2- in the cable retainer -1- and install in the support bracket on the thread -arrows-.
-- Turn the cable retainer -1- in the -direction of the arrow A- and release the tension on the spring -direction of the arrow B-. The cable -2- is adjusted.
-- Install the battery tray and the battery. Refer to BATTERY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Check the coolant level. Refer to COOLANT LEVEL, CHECKING AND FILLING .
-- Install the lower section of the left front wheel housing liner. Refer to OVERVIEW - FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER .
-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .
