Heater And A/C Unit, Removing And Installing: Removing

Immediately seal off any open lines and connections with clean plugs from the Engine Bung Set: VAS 6122  .

Continuation

-- Disconnect the refrigerant line with the inner heat exchanger on the expansion valve. Refer to Refrigerant Lines with Inner Heat Exchanger, Removing and Installing  .

Vehicles with High-Voltage System 

-- Disconnect the refrigerant lines to the expansion valve on the expansion valve. Refer to REFRIGERANT LINES TO EXPANSION VALVE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, VEHICLES WITH HIGH-VOLTAGE SYSTEM  .

Continuation for all vehicles 

-- Mark the coolant hoses installation position -1-.

-- Clamp off the coolant hoses -1- using the Hose Clamps - Up To 25mm: 3094  .

CAUTION:

The cooling system may be under pressure. There is a risk of scalding due to hot steam and hot coolant.

Scalding the skin and other parts of the body is possible.

- Wear safety gloves.

- Wear protective eyewear.

- Reduce the pressure by covering the coolant expansion tank cap with a suitable towel and carefully opening it.

-- Place a cleaning cloth under the heater core for the heater, to catch escaping coolant.

-- Lift the clamp -2-.

-- Remove the coolant hoses -1- from the heater core.

-- Push a suitable hose -B- on the connection -1-.

-- Slide in the commercially available compressed air gun -A- into the end of the hose -B-.

-- Hold a suitable container -C- under the connection -2- and use the commercially available compressed air gun -A- to carefully blow out coolant out of the heat exchanger.

-- Remove the instrument panel crossmember. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL CROSSMEMBER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the rear passenger side footwell vent. Refer to REAR FOOTWELL VENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING  .

-- Remove the air duct to the rear vent. Refer to Air Duct for Rear Center Console Vent, Removing and Installing  .

-- Disconnect the connector -1-.

-- Disconnect the connector from the Airbag Control Module -J234-. Refer to AIRBAG CONTROL MODULE -J234-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Cover the carpet and Airbag Control Module -J234- in the vehicle interior with a waterproof foil and absorbent paper.

-- Cut through the cable tie -arrow- on the condensation water drain hose -1-.

-- Remove the condensation water drain hose -1-.

Vehicles with Auxiliary Heater Heating Element -Z35- 

-- Disconnect the wires on the Auxiliary Heater Heating Element -Z35-. Refer to Auxiliary Heater Heating Element Z35, Removing and Installing  .

Continuation for all vehicles 

-- Free up the wires together with the wiring duct above the heater and A/C unit.

Conditions

-- Remove the heater and A/C unit from the bracket and hold it in this position.

-- Free up the wire on the back.

-- Remove the heater and A/C unit.

-- Remove the bracket for the heater and A/C unit. Refer to Heater and A/C Unit Bracket, Removing and Installing  .
