Front Axle Differential Lock Fluid, Draining And Filling

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

CAUTION:

Wear acid-resistant safety gloves.

-- If equipped, remove the noise insulation. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .

-- Place the Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit: SMN372500  under the final drive.

-- Use the Flexible Funnel: VAS 6675  to drain the oil.

-- Position the Funnel so that the subframe does not come in contact with the oil.

-- Remove the oil drain plug -arrow- from the front axle differential lock.

-- Completely drain the Front Axle Differential Lock Fluid.

The illustration shows an example for use.

NOTE:

If the oil can no longer be filled, please pay attention to the disposal regulations.

-- Install the new oil drain plug -arrow- (see previous illustration) and tighten to the tightening specification.

-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .

Tightening Specification 

Fill the front axle differential lock fluid

-- Replace oil filler plug after removing.

-- Place the Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit: SMN372500  under the front axle differential lock.

-- Use a Commercially Available Hose approximately (1.50 m long - (.06 in)) with Outer Circumference approximately 15 mm (.59 in) and a Commercially Available Funnel to fill:

-- Route the hose -A- through the engine compartment.

-- Clean the area near the front axle differential lock oil filler plug -arrow-.

-- Cover neighboring components.

-- Remove the oil filler plug -arrow-.

-- Insert hose -A- in the filler hole -arrow-.

-- Insert the funnel in Hose -A-.

-- Fill with oil until some starts to escape from between the hose and the oil fill hole.

-- Remove Hose. Some extra oil may drain out.

-- Install a new oil filler plug -arrow- and tighten it to the tightening specification.

-- If necessary, clean the area near the front axle differential lock oil filler plug -arrow- and neighboring components.
