Overview - Transmission Housing And Gearshift Mechanism

- Removing and installing. Refer to OVERVIEW - DIFFERENTIAL, FWD or Refer to OVERVIEW - DIFFERENTIAL, AWD AND FWD WITH FRONT AXLE DIFFERENTIAL LOCK .
- Left Flange Shaft
- With pressure spring and tapered ring
- Removing and installing. Refer to LEFT SEAL, REPLACING .
- FWD, Assembling. Refer to OVERVIEW - DIFFERENTIAL, FWD .
- AWD, Assembling. Refer to OVERVIEW - DIFFERENTIAL, AWD AND FWD WITH FRONT AXLE DIFFERENTIAL LOCK .
- Circlip
- For the metal cover
- Not present with rubber or plastic cap

- Replace after removing
- Allocate the components using the Parts Information.
- Circlip
- For the grooved ball bearing/input shaft Refer to OVERVIEW - INPUT SHAFT
- New Thickness, Determining. Refer to Figure.
- Back-Up Lamp Switch -F4-
- 20 Nm
- Switch without gasket, clean the threads of the switch if necessary
- Switch with permanent gasket: replace the switch
- Switch with separate gasket: replace the gasket
- Coat the tab lightly with MoS 2 grease.
- Seal
- If equipped, replace after removing
- Not installed on all transmissions
- Fluid Drain Plug
- Tightening specification. Refer to Transmission Fluid .

- Replace after removing

- Transmission Neutral Position Sensor -G701-
- For vehicles with the Start/Stop System
- Locking Bolt
- Metal locking bolt: 45 Nm
- Plastic locking bolt: 30 Nm
- The locking bolt must be removed in order to remove or install the selector shaft
- Replace locking bolt after removing
- For the gearshift shaft
- Metal or plastic locking bolt
- For transmissions without a transmission fluid fill plug, fill the fluid through the threaded hole for the locking bolt. Refer to Transmission Fluid .

- 15 Nm and turn an additional 180°

- 15 Nm and turn an additional 180°
- Replace after removing

- Shift Unit
- (Gearshift shaft with gearshift cover). Refer to Transmission, Disassembling and Assembling .
- Removing and installing with the transmission installed:
- For vehicles with a turbo diesel engine, remove the entire air filter housing. Refer to the appropriate Service Information .
- For vehicles with a gasoline engine, remove the entire air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- If necessary, remove the battery and the battery tray. Refer to BATTERY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- The locking elbow -item Locking Elbow for adjusting the shift mechanism must not be engaged
- Remove the cables and gearshift lever. Refer to OVERVIEW - SHIFT MECHANISM .
- Remove the locking screw.
- If equipped, remove the Transmission Neutral Position Sensor -G701-.
- Remove bolts and shift unit
- Install in reverse order of removal. Replace the O-ring and bolts.
