Shift Mechanism, Removing And Installing: Installing
Install in the reverse order of removal while noting the following:
-- Replace the gasket on the gearshift housing.
-- Align the shift housing so that is it parallel to the body.
- The distance on both sides to the body must be equal.
-- Tighten the gearshift housing with the noise insulation.
-- Route the cables -1- from the gearshift mechanism -2- to the transmission as follows:
- The cables must be routed parallel to each other and must not cross each other.
- The cables must be routed inside the depression in the heat shield -3-.
The heat shield from above is shown in the magnified area.
A clip -A- holds the cables and heat shield to each other in place.
-- Mount the cable bracket on the transmission and tighten the bolts -2- and nuts -1-.
The cable bracket is inserted on the pin of the double bolt -1- and bolted on the transmission -2-.
The holes in the cable retainers have different diameters.
Allocation of cable retainers. Refer to Figure.
-- Apply a small amount of grease on the pin -arrow- for the selector lever -2-.
- Refer to the Parts Information for the grease allocation.
-- Secure the shift cable with new lock washers -1- to the gearshift lever -2-.
-- Lubricate the selector relay lever and gearshift lever. Refer to Figure and Figure.
-- Install the selector relay lever and the cable retainer together. Refer to Figure.
-- Install the selector cable into the cable retainer on the selector relay lever.
-- Adjust the gearshift mechanism. Refer to SHIFT MECHANISM, ADJUSTING .
-- Install the center console. Refer to CENTER CONSOLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the boot with the gearshift knob. Refer to GEARSHIFT KNOB, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the heat shield under the gearshift mechanism.
Installing the heat shield. Refer to FLOOR HEAT SHIELD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the driveshaft for AWD vehicles. Refer to the appropriate Service Information .
-- Assemble the exhaust system free of tension. Refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM, INSTALLING WITHOUT TENSION .
-- Install the entire air filter housing.
Vehicles with Gasoline Engine
-- Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the battery tray, battery and the battery cover. Refer to BATTERY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
