Rear Window, Removing And Installing: Removing
Risk of injury to the hands and eyes from glass fragments.
Getting cut is possible.
- Wear protective eyewear.
- Wear safety gloves.
If the window glass is to be reused, make sure that the electrical connections for the window defogger are not damaged.
-- Remove the spoiler on the edge of the roof. Refer to SPOILER .
-- Release and disconnect the connectors for the rear window defogger and Left and Right Antenna Module -R108/ R109-.
-- Pull the cutting wire -1- with the Flush Bonded Window Kit - Awl: VAG1474/2 through the adhesive at the position shown in the image -arrow- toward the inside.
-- Secure the cutting wire end with the Bonded Window Tool Kit - Pull Handle: VAG1351/1 to prevent it from being pulled out.
-- Lay the cutting wire -1- around the rear window -3- and guide the second end of the wire inward.
-- Secure the cutting wire end on the Cutting Tool for Bonded Windows: VAS6452 -item 4- or the Window Reel Device: VAG1654 A .
The protective film or the Flush Bonded Window Kit - Plastic Trim: VAG1474/15 must be used to protect the positioned sheet metal flange.
-- Carefully push the protective film -4- or the Flush Bonded Window Kit - Plastic Trim: VAG1474/15 between the rear window and the sheet metal flange.
-- Position the Window Reel Device: VAG1654 A as shown.
-- Move the Window Reel Device: VAG1654 A accordingly and cut the rear window free at the top on both sides.
-- While cutting free, press the cutting wire -3- against the rear window using the Flush Bonded Window Kit - Wedge (5 pc.): VAG1474/5 in order to have clearance on the body flange.
-- Cut free the rear window at the bottom.
A second technician is required for the rest of the removal procedure.
-- Hold the rear window with two Suction Lifters: VAG1344 when cutting free.
-- Remove the rear window with two Double Suction Lifters: VAG1344 .
