Electronic Steering Column Lock Control Module -J764-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING: Removing
-- Remove the steering column switch module. Refer to STEERING COLUMN SWITCH MODULE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Unclip the wire bracket -3- for the wire -2-.
-- Release and detach the connector -4- on the Electronic Steering Column Lock Control Module - J764- -5-.
-- Remove the bracket -2-. The bracket must be removed using suitable service equipment.
-- On the shear bolts -3- with a suitable metal saw apply a notch on the center over the entire bolt head.
-- Position a suitable screwdriver on the notch and loosen the bolts.
-- The bolts can also be loosened with a suitable chisel.
If the following notes are ignored, the could fail later.
- Before starting work on electrical equipment and removing the steering wheel, the following conditions must be fulfilled:
- The technician must discharge themselves of static electricity. This is done by touching grounded metal parts, for example, water lines, heater pipes, metal supports or a workshop hoist.
- The wheels must be in the straight position.
