Transmission Mount: Perform A Visual Inspection Below The Battery Tray, Using A Mirror

NOTE:

Only applies to 2.0L TSI engines in hot climate countries. Refer to HOT CLIMATE COUNTRIES .

Special tools and workshop equipment required

The transmission mount is located below the battery tray in the engine/motor compartment.

-- Position the Magnetic Rod and Mirror:VAS 241 005 -1- in between the intake hose and the battery tray, then check the transmission mount.

In the upper half of the illustration the damping element -arrow- of the transmission mount is still present and undamaged.

In the lower part of the illustration the damping element -arrow- is damaged or is missing completely.

If the damping element is missing or damaged, then the transmission mount must be replaced.

Initial signs of a high temperature stressed transmission mount are black, greasy deposits around the area of the damping element.

In this case, document the findings and repeat the visual inspection during the next service.
