Catalytic Converter, Removing And Installing

Removing 

-- Disconnect all connectors from the heated oxygen sensors.

-- Remove the intake manifold upper section. Refer to INTAKE MANIFOLD UPPER SECTION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the coolant pipe from the heat shield -arrows-. Remove the bolts -1- and then remove the heat shield and intake manifold support.

-- Remove all heated oxygen sensors. Refer to HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the front exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifolds -arrows-.

-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .

FWD Vehicles:

-- Remove the heat shield above the right drive axle.

-- Loosen the exhaust system bracket -arrows-.

-- Remove the right drive axle heat shield from the bevel box -arrows-.

-- Remove the driveshaft heat shield if equipped.

-- Disengage the mounting -2- and loosen the clamping sleeve -3-.

NOTE:

Danger of causing damage to the decoupling element!

Do not bend the decoupling element more than 10°. Do not damage the wire mesh on the decoupling element.

-- Remove the front exhaust pipe with the catalytic converter and front muffler -1-.

Installing:

Install in reverse order of removal while noting the following:

Do not bend the decoupling element more than 10°. Do not damage the wire mesh on the decoupling element.

-- If equipped, use the transportation protection, to install the front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter and front muffler.

-- After assembly, remove the transportation protection -arrows-.
