Vehicle Battery
Battery change and battery ventilation
- When replacing the vehicle battery pay attention to that there is no open bleed hole in the area of the positive terminal.
- If there is an open bleed hole in this area it must be closed using a seal and the ventilation in the area of the negative terminal must be opened.
- Pay attention to the battery type. Correct designation of the battery. Refer to the appropriate Electronic Parts Information.
Severely Discharged Batteries
- Severely discharged batteries freeze earlier.
- Batteries that have been frozen must no longer be used.
- Severely discharged batteries in vehicles must be replaced prior to delivery. Pre-existing damage cannot be ruled out.
- Batteries which have not been in driving mode for a longer time, for example with vehicles in storage, discharge by themselves.
- With severely discharged batteries the battery acid almost entirely consists of water, because the acid ratio is severely reduced.
- Severely discharged batteries are sulphating, that means that the entire panel surfaces harden.
- The sulfating process may be largely reversed if a severely discharged battery is recharged immediately.
- If the battery is not recharged, the plates will continue to harden, and the ability to accept a charge will decrease. This results in reduction of battery performance.
