Lower Control Arm, Removing And Installing: Notes
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Torque Wrench, 40-200Nm:VAG1332A
- Pressure Plate:3412
- Slide Hammer Set:VW771
- Engine Support:T10533
Removing
-- Loosen the wheel bolts.
-- Raise the vehicle.
-- Remove the wheel.
-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .
-- Loosen the wheel housing liner in the rear area and fold forward.
Vehicles with Level Control System Sensor
-- Remove the nut -1-.
-- Remove the bracket -2- for the Left Front Level Control System Sensor -G78- or Right Front Level Control Sensor -G289- from the control arm -3-.
Continuation for All Vehicles
-- Remove the nuts -arrows-.
-- Remove the control arm from the ball joint and then turn the wheel bearing housing toward the outside to take the load off the control arm.
-- Remove the pendulum support. Refer to PENDULUM SUPPORT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING - 2.0L , PENDULUM SUPPORT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING - 3.6L .
-- Loosen the exhaust system double clamp. Refer to OVERVIEW - MUFFLER - 2.0L , OVERVIEW - MUFFLER - 3.6L .
AWD Vehicles
-- Disconnect the driveshaft from the front of the bevel box and secure it. Refer to OVERVIEW - DRIVE AXLE .
The driveshaft is not removed.
Continuation for All Vehicles
-- Remove the exhaust system bracket from the subframe -arrows-.
-- Completely assemble the :T10533 to reach the shortest length.
-- Install the :T10533 -2- with the highest angle -arrow- on the transmission. To do so use the shortest bolt of the pendulum support thread -1-.
-- Push the engine/transmission assembly forward until the :T10533/5 -3- can be inserted in the pendulum support bearing.
-- Turn the :T10533 until the distance -a- between the bolt for the control arm -1- and the transmission is reached.
a = 85 mm
-- Remove the bolt -arrow-.
-- Pivot the control arm -1- downward.
-- Install the :VW771 -2- together with the :3412 -3- and the nut -4- on the control arm -1-.
-- Pull the control arm -1- with the :VW771 -2- out of the bracket.
