Adaptive Cruise Control (Acc), Calibrating, Static
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Setting Device - Basic Set:VAS 6430/1 or Setting Device - Basic Set:VAS 6430/1A
- ACC Reflector Mirror :VAS 6430/10
- Adapter VAS 6430/9 :VAS 6430/9 , only for surface mounted hoist with a dimension greater than 300 mm.
- Screwdriver with T-bar:VAS 272 001 , not illustrated
- Wheel Alignment Computer - Camera:VAS 701 001/1 , not illustrated
- Vehicle Diagnostic Tester
- Wheel Alignment Computer
- Note the calibration conditions. Refer to CALIBRATION CONDITIONS .
- Before the vehicle is driven onto the wheel alignment platform, it is necessary to check if there is sufficient floor space in between the vehicle and the Setting Device Basic Set:VAS 6430 . The distance between the Setting Device - Basic Set:VAS 6430/1A and the sensor must be 120 cm ± 2.5 cm (47.24 ± 0.98 in.).
- If there is not sufficient space, drive the vehicle backward onto the alignment stand in order to use the corresponding space.
- If the ACC Reflector Mirror:VAS 6430/10 is repositioned during the adjustment procedure, then the adjustment of the Setting Device Basic Set:VAS 6430 must always be checked, for example bubble levels, individual toe values at the calibration beam.
- The DTC memory must be checked before starting the calibration / adjustment.
- Any faults must be corrected.
The calibration procedure is described with the Setting Device Basic Set:VAS 6430 .
The following adjustment sequence must be maintained:
- Ensure a distance of 120 cm ± 2.5 cm in between the centrally placed ACC Reflector Mirror:VAS 6430/10 and the air grille sensor.
- Attach the ACC Reflector Mirror:VAS 6430/10 in the center of the calibration beam,
- Adjust the control module, if it is not within the tolerance, using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
Do not perform the steps under "Calibration procedure without a previous axle alignment" if an axle alignment has already been performed.
Calibration procedure without previous axle alignment
Pay attention to the test requirements for the axle alignment. Refer to TEST REQUIREMENTS .
Follow the measurement preparations for calibrating/adjusting the driver assistance systems. Refer to MEASUREMENT PREPARATIONS .
For vehicles with an air suspension, adjust to the standard vehicle height and lock, using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
For vehicles with rear axle steering, steer the rear axle to the zero position, using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester. This is the only way to ensure that the rear axle steering is in the straight-ahead position.
-- Drive the vehicle onto the vehicle alignment platform.
-- Connect the battery charger. Refer to Battery, Charging .
-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester (guide the diagnostic cable through the open window).
During the calibration procedure pay attention that all vehicle doors remain closed and the vehicle exterior lamps are off.
-- Move the wheels so that they are straight.
-- Install the quick-action clamps on the rear wheels.
-- Mount the reflectors on the quick-action clamps.
-- Perform a wheel run-out compensation on the rear wheels.
Calibration procedure with or without previous axle alignment.
-- Select the ACC calibration button on the wheel alignment computer.
- The Setting Device - Basic Set:VAS 6430/1A may not be moved on the calibration beam.
-- Position the Setting Device Basic Set:VAS 6430 centered and parallel in distance -a- to the centered ACC Reflector Mirror:VAS 6430/10 .
a - 120 cm ± 2.5 cm (47.24 ± 0.98 in.)
-- Position the front wheel measuring sensors -1- on the calibration beam.
-- Adjust the knob on the ACC Reflector Mirror:VAS 6430/10 -1- so that the number "2" is facing the line marking -arrows-.
-- Balance the bubble level -A- using the adjusting screw -1-.
-- Level the bubble level -B- using the adjusting screws -2- and -3-.
-- Adjust the reflector mirror -5- with the crank -arrow- so that the laser beam strikes the sensor lens in the center.
-- Position the mirror on the side of the calibration beam so that the laser beam is in the center of the VW emblem -1-.
-- Turn the fine adjustment screw -4- until the display on the wheel alignment computer is within the tolerance range.
-- Now, again, check if the bubbles are level and if the laser beam hits the sensor lens centrally, using the laser beam at the ACC Reflector Mirror:VAS 6430/10 .
If the laser beam does not hit the sensor lens, then the alignment of the ACC Reflector Mirror:VAS 6430/10 must be repeated.
-- Follow the instructions from the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
