Driveshaft, Removing And Installing: Installing
Install in reverse order of removal while noting the following:
Gaskets in driveshaft flanges -arrow- must not be damaged when removing and installing.
Replace the driveshaft if it is damaged.
Do not tilt the driveshaft. Push it horizontally onto the centering pins.
Install all driveshaft parts marked in relation to each other in same position when reinstalling.
If the removed driveshaft is reinstalled, always pay attention to the marks -arrows- on the driveshaft and rear axle. They must be aligned.
The marks -arrows- must also be aligned in the front.
-- Align the intermediate bearing in its oblong holes so the driveshaft or bearing is not under stress.
-- Tighten the intermediate bearing only after the driveshaft has been attached.
-- Tighten the driveshaft and intermediate bearing. Refer to OVERVIEW - DRIVESHAFT .
-- Remove the heat shield -1- from the bevel box.
Tightening Specifications:
- Bolt -A- 20 Nm
- Bolt -B- 40 Nm
-- Install the drive axle heat shield, if equipped, on the bevel box -arrows-. Refer to Drive Axle .
The right drive axle heat shield is attached with two or three nuts.
-- Install the heat shield. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - HEAT SHIELD .
-- Install the fuel tank. Refer to FUEL TANK, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the exhaust system. Refer to OVERVIEW - MUFFLER - 2.0L , OVERVIEW - MUFFLER - 3.6L .
-- Install the tunnel brace. Refer to TUNNEL BRACE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .
