Cooling System, Checking for Leaks

Requirement

CAUTION:

The cooling system may be under pressure. There is a risk of scalding due to hot steam and hot coolant.

Scalding the skin and other parts of the body is possible.

- Wear safety gloves.

- Wear protective eyewear.

- Reduce the pressure by covering the coolant expansion tank cap with a suitable towel and carefully opening it.

-- Open the cap -arrow-.

-- Connect the Cooling System Tester:V.A.G 1274B  -3- to the adapter -1-.

-- Operate the hand pump several times to create a pressure of 1.5 bar (21.76 psi).

Requirement

-- If the pressure falls more than 0.2 bar (2.9 psi), search for leaks and correct the problem.

Tip

The loss of pressure of 0.2 bar (2.9 psi) within 10 minutes is caused by the coolant cooling down. If the coolant temperature is the same as the ambient temperature, then no loss of pressure is permitted.

Requirement

-- Release the pressure at the cooling system tester and at the coolant expansion tank.

-- Install the cap.
