Component Location Overview - Transmission Control

-- Touch a grounded object before working on electrical components. Do not directly touch connectors or open electronic components.

  1. Transmission Control Module -J217-
  2. Data Link Connector
    • Component location. Refer to Fig 7
  3. Shift Lock Solenoid -N110-
    • Component location: is integrated permanently inside the selector mechanism and cannot be replaced separately
    • Can be checked. Refer to Vehicle Diagnostic Tester "Guided Fault Finding" function.
  4. Multifunction Transmission Range Switch -F125-
    • Component location. Refer to Fig 2
    • Can be checked. Refer to Vehicle Diagnostic Tester "Guided Fault Finding" function.
    • Removing, installing and adjusting. Refer to SELECTOR MECHANISM .
  5. Valve Body
  6. Sensor Wiring Harness
  7. Solenoid Valve Wiring Harness
  8. Handle with Shift Cover
  9. Selector Mechanism with Selector Lever Cable
    • With integrated Selector Lever Sensor System Control Module -J587- with Selector Lever -E313-, Tiptronic Switch -F189-, Selector Lever Park Position Lock Switch -F319- and Shift Lock Solenoid -N110-
    • Component location: The components are permanently integrated in the selector mechanism circuit board and cannot be replaced separately.
    • The components can be checked. Refer to Vehicle Diagnostic Tester "Guided Fault Finding" function.
    • The selector mechanism must be replaced if a component is faulty. Refer to SELECTOR MECHANISM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
    • The selector mechanism can only be replaced together with the selector lever cable
  10. Transmission Input Speed Sensor -G182-
  11. Transmission Output Speed Sensor -G195-
  12. Transmission Range Display -Y6-
    • Component location: the Transmission Range Display -Y6- -arrow- is integrated inside the instrument cluster.
    • Can only be replaced together with the instrument cluster. Refer to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER .
  13. Kick Down Switch -F8-
    • Not a separate component, the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor -G79- and Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor 2 -G185- assume the function, both are integrated in the accelerator pedal module; component location. Refer to Fig 8
    • Signal received in engine control module
    • Signal transmitted from the engine control module to the transmission control module via the CAN bus
    • Can be checked. Refer to Vehicle Diagnostic Tester "Guided Fault Finding" function
  14. Brake Lamp Switch -F- 
    • Component location. Refer to Fig 9
    • Can be checked. Refer to Vehicle Diagnostic Tester "Guided Fault Finding" function.

Multifunction Transmission Range Switch F125

Installed location: the multifunction transmission range switch is located on upper side of transmission.

Valve Body

Installed location: the valve body is bolted to underside of transmission housing and is covered by transmission oil pan.

The Solenoid Valve 1 -N88-, Solenoid Valve 2 -N89-, Solenoid Valve 3 -N90-, Solenoid Valve 4 -N91-, Solenoid Valve 5 -N92-, Solenoid Valve 6 -N93-, Solenoid Valve 9 -N282- and Solenoid Valve 10 -N283- are secured on the valve body.

Sensor Wiring Harness

Installed location: the electrical wiring harness is secured to valve body in the transmission.

Solenoid Valve Wiring Harness

Installed location: the electrical wiring harness is secured to valve body in the transmission.

Transmission Input Speed SensorG182 and Transmission Output Speed Sensor G195

Installed location: the sensors are installed above the valve body in the transmission housing.

2 -  Transmission Output Speed Sensor -G195-

Data Link Connector

Installed location: the data link connector -arrow- is located on the left under the driver storage compartment

Kick Down Switch

A programmed value of the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor -G79- and Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor 2 -G185- (integrated in accelerator pedal module) is saved in the engine control module as a kick-down signal.

Accelerator pedal module, Removing and installing. Refer to ACCELERATOR PEDAL MODULE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Brake Lamp Switch

Component location: The Brake Lamp Switch -F- -A- is located on the brake master cylinder.

Brake lamp switch, Removing and installing. Refer to BRAKE LAMP SWITCH -F-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
